A Tale of Two Cities | 28/06/17 – 09/07/17

Head over to Liberty London between 28th June and 9th July for ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ pop up exhibition with the Affordable Art Fair. The exhibition is your chance to pick up some fantastic pieces of affordable art, including original paintings, photographs and limited edition prints, ahead of the Bristol and Battersea art fairs in the Autumn.

Jamaica Street Open Studios | 16/06/17 – 18/06/17

The annual open studios and artwork auction at Jamaica Street Artists in Bristol is fast approaching! Don’t miss the opportunity to have a sneak peak into the studios of over 30 artists of all disciplines from 16 – 18 June. Many First Contemporary artists based at Jamaica Street will be opening up their studios, including Kate Evans, Elaine Jones, Andrew Hood, Tom Hughes and Dorcas Casey. Join us at this fantastic event to get a behind the scenes look into their studios and to see what they’ve been working on recently!

Affordable Art Fair Hampstead | 11/05/17 – 14/05/17

We’re looking forward to heading to London for the Affordable Art Fair Hampstead (11th – 14th May), the theme of which is ‘Art Beyond Borders’, and the impact of internationalism and travel on contemporary art will be explored across the fair. We are pleased to be showing the travel inspired paintings of Andrew Hood and Elaine Jones, as well as new landscape paintings from Anna Boss, and Ben Risk’s surreal monoprints.

In the lead up to the Affordable Art Fair Hampstead (11th – 14th May) we’re going to be profiling all of the artists involved on our Instagram with our #HampsteadTakeover. Affordable Art Fair Battersea | 09/03/17 – 12/03/17

The Affordable Art Fair at Battersea Park, London, is just around the corner and First Contemporary are excited to be showing a selection of new paintings, monoprints and mixed media pieces from artists Andrew Hood, Anna BossBen Risk, Catherine Monmarson and Calo Carratalá.

Affordable Art Fair Brussels | 16/02/17 – 20/02/17

From the 16th – 20th February First Contemporary will be heading to the Affordable Art Fair Brussels, where we will be showing exciting new paintings from Andrew Hood, Anna Boss, Elaine Jones and Kate Evans.

We are also delighted to be representing painter and printmaker, Ben Risk, and will be showing a selection of his fantastic monoprints at the fair. Throughout Ben’s work the everyday imagery of streets, houses, trees, animals and people are configured into dreamlike spaces and environments, inviting the viewer on a familiar but surreal adventure. Lastly, we are pleased to be showcasing Trish Lock’s delicate sculptural work, ‘Hands’. To make this piece Trish worked thick bamboo sheets using a traditional Himalayan deckle to create a pulp. “In the final installation, the Hands took part in an ancient game… A game used over the centuries to make decisions and to resolve conflicts.” – Trish Lock

We asked Bristol based photographer, Alice Hendy, for her take on Stokes Croft, Bristol’s cultural quarter, where a number of the First Contemporary artists have studios.

Affordable Art Fair Bristol  |  09/09/16 – 11/09/16

Last weekend First Contemporary set up at Brunel’s Old Station alongside 50 other galleries for the Affordable Art Fair Bristol. We showed new abstract, figurative and landscape paintings from: Andrew Hood, Elaine Jones, Anna Boss, Tom Hughes, Kate Evans, Catherine Monmarson and Jude Hart.
